Mi5 supports the ReesScan Research Project

Mi5 has worked with ReesScan Research Project to  install two time-lapse cameras on the Rees River.

The project is using RedEye cameras to record images of the river flow gauges at Invincible and the Paradise Road Bridge every 5 mins.

The RedEye cameras are ideal for this Research Project, given that they are weatherproof (IP65 rated) and acquire images on a set timer or can be motion triggered.  Intelligent power control enables the cameras to be deployed remotely for over 5 months without swapping batteries.

The Mi5 cameras (called "ReesCams" by the project team) will be used to help infer the pattern of inundation as the channel wets up and can be time-synced to the river level monitoring at each site.

Have a look at www.reesscan.org. The project team will keep these pages updates with new time-lapse series so check back regularly.

About the ReesScan Research Project

ReesScan is a international research project funded by the UK Natural Environmental Research Council and brings together a leading team of river scientists with skills in remote sensing, hydrometry and sedimentology. Our aim is to develop improved models of the processes linking channel change in braided rivers to the flood flows that drive their dynamics.  Our research focuses on the highly dynamic Rees River in Otago, New Zealand.
